How it should work when it is part of the service
Takedown should be part of the service, not a separate call. When the season ends, a crew comes back and removes everything. The lights get labeled, packed and kept in storage until next year, so they come back out ready. You never store a single strand.
The case for off site storage
Off site storage solves three problems at once. Your attic stays empty, which is worth something in most houses. Condition holds, which is why so many strands die between seasons. Labeling means the display repeats accurately.
If you would rather not repeat this
The other option removes the takedown conversation entirely. Permanent lighting has no January. It is a different purchase with different math, and it does not suit every household. But if the takedown conversation is what is bothering you, it is worth asking about once.
The other question worth asking
A display runs for a month or more, and something occasionally acts up. The question is who you call. Service during the season belongs on the quote, and the quote should say which. Ask while you are still comparing companies, rather than the week you need it.
What next season looks like
Year one is the effort. Once a display is designed and stored, the following year is scheduling. Booking the second year is a short conversation. Changes build on the existing plan, rather than starting over.
