Why LED and nothing else
Hardware that stays up year round faces a harder test than hardware that lives in a box eleven months a year. That rules out the bulbs that go in a tub in January. LEDs run cool, draw little power and do not have a filament to break, which is the whole reason a permanent system is possible.None of this means you need to understand electronics. It is a reason to want a specific answer about the hardware, and to expect a specific answer rather than a brochure line. The people who explain it plainly are usually the ones who install it carefully.
The half of the system nobody talks about
The LEDs are set into an aluminum channel matched to your trim. That channel hides the hardware and aims the output. Color matching is not an upgrade, and it is why the daytime look holds.
Individual diodes, not one long bulb
Each LED in the run is addressed on its own. That is the difference between a single color across the whole house and something that can alternate, chase or fade. The capability matters a handful of nights, and then Christmas arrives.Look at somebody's finished work at noon rather than at nine, because night hides sloppy mounting and daylight does not.
What else gets installed
The parts you never look at are where the wire runs, how it is powered and what talks to your phone. How that wiring is routed says more about the crew than the lights do. Ask where the wire goes and where the controller mounts while it is still a conversation.
The long view
Permanent means it stays, which cuts both ways. A system put up carefully asks very little of you. A rushed one shows in the first summer, which is exactly what you were paying to avoid. The hardware is only half the purchase. The install is the rest.
What the system has to survive
Nothing about leaving it up is easy on the equipment. Sun and heat do the slow damage. Humidity is constant here, which puts the seals and the connections under real load. Which is why the connections, the seals and the way the wire is terminated matter as much as the diodes.
Dimming
These systems have adjustable brightness, and it changes how the product feels. Full brightness is for December, and it is far more light than an ordinary evening wants. Most people end up running the everyday setting well below maximum, since restraint is what makes it look considered.
Seeing it on your own house
Reading about channels and diodes is not the same as seeing it on your roofline.
